Does anyone know what size bolts are used to bolt on the dust shield on a 396 4-speed bellhousing? I discovered mine does not have the dust shield on it and have ordered one from Year One. They did not know what the bolts were and if I can remember back 25 yrs, I think they had a 7/16 bolt head and were about 1/2 inch long with fine threads. I believe there are 6 bolts needed? I suppose I could go to the local Chevy parts and maybe they could look them up?
Thanks! graemlins/waving.gif

Joe,
My 4 speed '70 chevelle with a 621 bellhousing takes (4) bolts with a 7/16 head and are about 1/2 inch long. They are (1/4-20) course thread bolts. Any hardware should have these.

Screws are not call out by headsize but by thread size. What you need is (6) 3/8-16UNC X 1.5 LONG HEX HEAD CAPSCREWs w/HEAVY WASHER for a stock bellhousing or automatic transmission. Also, the head is 9/16" and this is waht is called a course thread pitch not fine. Use at least a grade 5 (3 markings on top). Do not use the hardware store variety w/o any markings. Hope this helps.

Thanks ChevyJim, that's just what I was looking for. And zookpr, that information will come in handy when I blow the bolts right out of the housing!
Thanks to both of you for your help!!!
