Hey guys I am about to fire up my new 454 and I have installed the cam and valve train components per the directions supplied. I didn't see in the instructions to adjust the valves again after initial break-in. I have always adjusted the valves again shortly after cam break-in, just because that's what I was told by everybody. Is it necessary? I am referring to a hydraulic cam.

Bama, all my recent experience is with solids, but I would still INSIST you readjust valves after a few heating/cooling clycles.

I had to use the locker's on mine, they loosened up after 10-15 miles.Other wise you should be ok,just change the oil.

Bama,i have installed many hyd cams and the ans to your question is yes or no depeding on a few things.
If your very experienced with static valve adj and your motor does not have any lifter noise at cold startup or when hot i would not worry about it. Just go about the buisness of changing your oil & filter often, (3k max for my driver, but my classic ss396 in spring/fall and or 1k max).
But,if you do not consider yourself somewhat of an expert on doing static valve adj then i would re-adj the valves after cam breakin just to be safe.
