Guys, I have a 408 BB with Edelbrock 800 EPS carb. I have heard that Edel. Performer series carbs do not like high fuel pressure. I'm running a new Holley 7psi fuel pump nowdays. Should I add a Edelbrock fuel regulator to the line to lower the pressure back down to around 5.5 psi? My engine has about 1500 miles on a performance rebuild and my plugs ( tried 3 different types to date, AC R44XLS-AC Rapid Fire#5-Autolite 404) and all of them seem to be getting washed with fuel. I just can't get a tan or brown plug reading. FYI I'm also running a RPM Air Gap intake, 063 heads with all the port work, bowls blended,3-angle, with 2.19-1.88 ss valves. KB Hyper pistons, .133 dome, with a Comp Cams 284H. Should I run a regulator or not?? Thanks for any help guys! Steve Ocala, fl.

Yes. Edels are real finicky abotut he pressure, best to knock it down to atleast 6 psi. Also make sure you checked the float level, i've found more often than not its not set right from the factory. Plugs being black could be other issues as well but yes, run a regulator with a pressure gauge.

I had the same problem with my car running rich. I have a 69 with a 454, rpm manifold and 850 eldebrok qjet and the car has a cam.

I had a mechanic go over the carb and he replaced the power valve spring to a weaker spring. This was necessary due to the cam. It allow him to get a A/F setting adjustment. he also reduced the jet size, adjusted the metering rods and made sure the electric choke was operating correctly and getting a full 12 volts. I still had the problem and ended up replacing the holley pump with a stock pump but had to regulate the pressure down from 9 to 7-8 as Eldebrok recommended.
