: Finally got HEI assembled

I've had two old HEIs setting around and finally got around to making what I hope will be one reliable unit from them. Most of the internal stuff looked ok and I ended up using one distributor with the mainshaft from the other one because of wear on the pivot pins. I'd planned on doing this last weekend, but just about everything had to be ordered. I did have a pack of grease well seals and felt washers.

Both GM 990 modules checked out fine at Advance Auto. I poked around at the ignition and pickup coils with an ohmmeter and they might be good too.

New cap, rotor, plugs, wires, grease well seal, felt washer, Crane adjustable vacuum advance, fresh grease, about .017" endplay.

Tomorrow I'll stick it in the car and change the plugs and wires.

I'm planning on a remote Blaster 2 coil, but that can wait for when the rebuilt 355 goes in. It'll have to mount below the wiper motor and there's no room to drill with the engine installed. I'm using the engine that's in there now for a test bed while I sort out fuel/carb issues and dial in the advance curve. Anything but work on the paint job like I'm supposed to...

All I need now is the feed wire from Year One.

I might have to break down and get the ZZ4 shaft assembly for the other one.
