how exactly do you determine the size of the valves. Do you just measure the valves? I have a set of 781 heads also but I'm not sure on the valve size.

Hey Tom, as far as I know no large oval BBC prouduction head ever had larger valves than 2.06/1.72". Just a rule of thumb.
Now I have seen them smaller though. Several tall deck 366 and 427 have have taken apart have had really small valve in them. I never took the time to measure them, but they were pretty small.

The real small valves in peanut-port heads may be 1.94"/1.60", but don't know for sure b/c I can't find verification....
And I have looked several places... pdq67
