: fuel pump options?

I have looked at a lot of options for the in tank fuel pumps for my 66 el camino and it seems like it's cut a hole in the top of the tank or go in line. I really don't want to cut an access hole in my bed and I don't want to drop the tank for access. Has any one tried this

I've personally had horrible luck with Airtex stuff, and most forums you search will say the same. If you can buy an OEM version of that deal, then it may be a good option.

This is the same setup but differant pump. If this would work it would be accessed from the front of the tank instead of the top with out the need to cut holes in the trunk or bed. Just thinking out loud.

It may depend on your expectations and even more on your HP (fuel flow) requirements.

The first module you posted is very similar to the AC Delco MU-2021 that I put into my '68 tank. So far I only have the pump and not the rest of the EFI so I have not actually run it. Nonetheless I would consider that a very realistic option for up to a 400 HP engine. The counter to the "Airtex is junk" is the internal pump is replaceable and easily found, you could even consider putting a high output Walbro into it up front if you wanted. It is the plastic parts and the sender lid that are the tricky parts and it is just pretty hard to mess those up. And they install easily and provide a very functional setup.

I am not sure that second Ebay sale is really a Walbro pump or not... it makes me nervous when they have Airtex listed all over the ad text ;)

With all the modifications I’ve seen on tanks I am surprised no one has tried this. I know it won’t be a direct fit but it would make access much easier. The MU-2021 mounts from the top so that eliminates that unit. This would be for a daily driver 383 LT1. Maybe I'll check the wrecking yards and mock it up. The replacement pumps for these units are reasonably priced and being for a HD F350 V10 I would guess it would supply plenty. Still have to research what this pump puts out. By the way, both pumps listed are for the same trucks and the difference is the pump.

Both the pumps mount from the top and I believe the only difference is the MU-2021 has only 2 lines coming out compared to 3 for the Airtex you posted.

You can find a pictorial here on TC that I posted of my installation of the MU-2021.

Now part of the cool thing about these is you really can mount the pump to the bottom of the tank and mount the lid anywhere/anyway you want so long as the internal hoses reach.

After searching rock auto I realised that it was flexable along with a wide range of replacement pumps. Carter makes a pump and they had a short vid of the install. Now I wonder if I can get the sending unit to work with my stock gauge or what I have to do to get it to work.

I am actually using the Ford sending unit with my Chevy-style Autometer gauge. Check out the pictures to see how I shortened up the float arm. Not perfect but indicates fuel level... perhaps a bit overly conservatively but to err that direction is better than the other way ;)

I did do a search and I saw the pictures of your unit. Read the posts also considering the Taurus pump. Like you I will be modifying a new tank. I also liked the idea of silver solder. I would like to have all my ducks in a row befor I start tearing into it cause I don't want to stop in the middle to rethink.
