: Small Block ID ?

Can anyone shed light on what I have here?

I have a 327 block with the casting date code of F-8-0 and casting no. of 3959512. The ID pad is stamped with CEOBO4342. My references indicate that this is a dealer replacement block either for a warranty replacement or over the counter.

My curiosity is the casting date code - it says it was cast on June 08, 1960 as a 327, a full year before 327's were available to the public. It also is the high nickel alloy as indicated on the front of the block.

The heads are the 3782461 double humps, cast G-8-5 and I think are right for my 65 Elky w/300 HP.

Thanks, OLDED

I ALSO CHECKED OUT THE NUMBES AND COME UP WITH THE SAME INFO.
I HAVE A 327 BLOCK WITH DATE CODE 1968 BUT THE
CASTING NO IDENTIFIES IT AS A 1962 327, WEIRD
THING ITS DOUBLE TANGS ON THE MAIN CAPS AND THE BLOCK AND COULD BE LINE BORE TO A 2.6415 AND BE USED AS A 350,IT HAS THE WEBBING OF A 350 AND YOU CAN USE THE 1 QUART SPIN ON FILTER INSTEAD OF THE CANASTER TYPE.

GM HAS DONE SOME WEIRD THINGS graemlins/clonk.gif

The casting date is probably 1970 not 1960. 327 blocks were available into the 70's from GM.
Most casting number lists are for standard in car production years, not inclusive of the additional replacement or crate sale years with the same casting number.

Edit: here is a link to Tracy Performance. they list your casting number blocks for sale dated 69-73

I thought about the possibility of it being a 1970 - but it is a small journal block ! They had stopped making them way before 70.
