Fired the car yesterday....After some tweeking of the IAC and cranking fuel have it starting nicely. The driveability and response is phenomenal  The self learn really seems to work well. Using the base tables from the 650hp 496 (preconfigured tune), and then setup with all the specifics of this combo.

My only complaint is how long it cranks to start. I would think if it were not runnning sequential it might fire up quicker as the cam/crank don't have to sync?? Not really a complaint, just a fact of life I suppose.

I want to thank DougF and Dennis Moore for their help along the way.
I gave it back to the guy today and told him to drive it for a few weeks until we go over everything and transfer the learning into the base fuel.
Then We'll get into the nitrous. It is all wired and plumbed ready to go :D

The tank from Ricks Tanks, came back with the corners cut off for tailpipe clearance just as beautiful as it was the first time I unboxed it......Thanx Hector for taking care of that:thumbsup:

I forgot to get some finished pics, but I will try this weekend......It will be at a local car show.

I'm running sequential on my FAST and it fires after in under 2 sec of cranking. How long does it take for yours before it fires?

Mine also seems like it has to crank a little more than usual to start, but that's by design as I understand - your not just dropping raw fuel in there like a carb. Takes about 2 secs to start I guess.

These systems, like most other aftermarket that have a cam sync, must first find the crank signal then the cam, after that they fire the injectors. This causes a couple more rotations. An OEM has a specific strategy for their crank and cam sensor and can usually find it in half a rev. The HP supports many ignition systems including DIS and must have a "safe" way to alway recognized things.

Carbs start quicker because the intake is full of fuel all the time.. ;) The EFI starts consistently every time.

Yea sounds about right.......It fires right up, just that you need time for the cam/crank sensors to sync I would think. Can't believe how responsive it is

Doug we must have been typing at the same time, LOL.
Again, very nice product, was a fun project.
Will get even more fun when we start spraying it.
Used 66# holley injectors, fed with an A1000 pump, -10 to Y, -8 to rails, and to regulator, and back to the tank. Should have plenty of fuel system!
Overkill, but it's done for good.

Couple pics of the finished project.
Runs very good, gotta tune the nitrous yet. After a couple weeks of driving I will transfer the learn tables to the base fuel tables. Then make any neccesary changes and start playing with the nitrous. Weird to not have to sit in the car and babysit it on a cold start. Reach in the window and turn the key!

Thanks! :beers: It's a friends car.... I built the engine last year and did the EFI conversion this spring for him.

Too early to tell what the mileage is, but I'll have him check it.

Brian, will that motor cruise OK with that cam in 4th gear? I would think it will cruise fine so long as its not a lock-up convertor.

Yes non-lock converter. Will cruise real well in OD, even down to 40mph.
Torque converer absorbs alot compared to your clutch I bet!

Yeah the stick is a tougher but manageable.

My neighbor has a 69 GTO with a 400. Was just redone, nothing exotic...OE bottom end with forged pistons, rebuilt #16 heads, CC XE274 FT cam, RPM intake, 770 Holley. We just swapped in a TKO600, 4.11 rear. He sorta dissapointed that the motor doesnt have alot more bite considering how much money it cost him to have it built. We have been looking at the Butler site, thinking about our next move. Were thinking of picking up a set of Eddy alum heads, see if that helps the motor come alive. Next would be a 455 kit (reusing his 400 block). Just have to decide which heads to buy, as there's a couple of different types.

To make a long story short, the 1st guy that "built" his motor was a butcher, and was enlisted to port the heads. We think he musta ruined the heads b/c the motor just doesnt run like it used to, which was just a junkyard shortblock, lunati FT HYD cam, and an old Weiand DP intake. Just used to run good that way, now it doesnt have any guts. After the 2nd correct rebuild, still sorta lame.

I can point you in direction when your ready.
Nice hydraulic roller and the right heads will make 550+hp/600 tq, with the 461 kit.
400 block, 4.250 stroke. IMO one of the best pontiac combo's you can build.
XE cams are known to under perform in pontiac combo's.

Yeah, I saw some posts on various sites regarding the XE's in Pontiac an Buicks and the lack of performance. Seems the XE's have issues pulling higher rpms in both of those motors. My bud's motor doesnt have any zip from the very bottom, and says it stops pulling at around 5000. I'm going to run a compression/leakdown tests, timing, etc just to make sure everything is good. After that, were gonna dig.

I'll PM when were ready to get into it - thanks Brian.
