I have a crate motor on the engine stand, and I ready to disassemble for paint.... my question is, whats the proper method of reinstalation of a harmonic balancer on a small block..... other than the old 2x4 and hammer..... special tool?

I bought a balancer installation tool. I think it was from proform. It has a one piece shaft, with a large and small threaded ends. The small threaded rod screws into the crank. The rest of the shaft has a larger diameter. There is a spacer that slides over the large shaft. A large nut is then tightened over the large shaft, against the spacer, which pushes the balancer onto the crank. I think I paid around $20 for mine. HTH
