I just read in past posts that you should not use the fel-pro blue intake gasket that comes in the engine gasket kit if you have an aluminum intake manifold . What kind of gasket would be best for an aluminum intake? I just did a gasket set on my small block and now it is blowing white smoke when i get on it hard , i think it could be water? just wondering which gasket to use when i pull this apart again. Thanks, Mike

Use same gaskets on intake, with 1/4 silicon on ends.
Why do you need to tear it a part again?
Do you have water or anti-freeze in oil?
Or maybe your not cleaning surface good for the intake.

If it's a SBC, you want the Fel Pro Print-O-Seal. The part number is 1256.

Thanks mike,it is a small block chevy, i will use the fel pro print-o-seal, i wish i had come here first . Dan , the reason i am taking it back apart is that last week i put a gasket kit on my motor ,everything from rear main to intake was leaking, car sat for a while and now that im driving it seems every gasket leaked.I had the intake blasted and cleaned the block real good prior to installing gasket. I did use copper rtv on both sides of the gasket and now dont know if that was the right thing to do. When i fired it up and took it out this weekend it smoked white smoke real bad when i got into the car hard, something it didnt do before i regasketed the motor. So i figure it could be the intake leaking. I am no pro at this but that was my first guess. I was allways told that white smoke = water and i noticed that when i got my car back from getting a new exhaust this weekend that it did have more condensation coming out of the pipes. does this sound like a good first start at the fix? Thanks, mike

if it was just smoking a little when you first ran the engine it could be run off water from a faulty gasket install. BUT if it continually blows white smoke out that means your head gasket is bad. Especially if its only doing this at WOT because the cylinders are creating a strong vaccum that will pull coolant down through a soggy head gasket when it normally wouldn't at cruise.

it doesnt blow smoke at idle but after about 4,000 rpm it blows. the reason i think that it is the intake is because it did not smoke when i ran it 2 weeks ago before the regasketing. If it was the head gasket , it blow smoke all the time right?

Like I said if it's only at WOT I would think head gasket because your creating a strong vaccum sucking water through. I've never seen an intake gasket cause white smoke like that only at WOT. But then again this really isn't even a problem because to check the head gasket you'll have to take off the intake first so you'll be able see if it's the intake or not. graemlins/thumbsup.gif
