Just got a 96 with a LT1 Ram Air. So just how much Horse Power does this motor have, stock.
Took it out on the highway and was rolling about 15-20 mile per hour, and steped into it. It broke lose and went a tire wideth to the right, and a tire width to the left. I lifted a little and then it hooked up, and steped back into it. I was a little suprised!!!!
What am I messing around with big blocks for!!!

The data on LT1's I've seen usually says around 300hp or maybe a little more. They have a fairly nice flat torque curve so the power isn't peaky.
I'm cleaning up the ports and installing a hot cam kit in mine before it goes in the 68. Hoping for about 400hp.

My 93 LT1 is a great motor. Like Peter said, it's got a great torque curve. It doesn't matter if you're doing 20 or 135, when you step into it, it goes. :D

Peter I have the hotcam kit for my ZZ4, and I'm curious to see how it works in your LT1. I was just going to use the ZZ4 cam in the LT1, but it's up in the air now.

I believe the 96 LT1's were rated at 285 HP from the factory. M6 ususally puts down 250~260ish RWHP and the A4 puts down 230~240ish RWHP bone stock.
I've got a CC305 cam, ported LT4 heads, Strange 12-bolt and other miscellaneous goodies on my 1997 Z28. They are fun cars, but no fun to work on.

The ZZ4 cam does have a little over the LT1 cam, but not a huge change. A LT1 hot cam kit is a hard bargain to beat.
I was going to stick 1.6:1 rockers on the LT1 cam but I don't think it can be done without the springs and maybe retainers and with the cost of those parts I might as well just buy a whole hot cam kit. From the cam specs I think 1.6:1 rockers on a LT1 cam would be just as good as the Hot cam.
My LT1 cam had a little defective hole on the top of one of the lobes that would take away about 1/2 of the surface area the roller lifter runs on. It's probably been like that for 20k or 30k miles but I wanted to change it.

I picked up quite a few LT1 cams for $20 and have one from a 95 in my 88's 305. They are cheap if you want to go that route, but since you're already going to be in there.... I got the hotcam kit through the dealer for $475, and my ZZ4 only has 3000 miles on it, so I have the springs and hardware from that for the LT1-ZZ4 cam swap. The ZZ4 cam has more lift and don't need the 1.6 rockers, and idles smooth. I'm hoping it will be computer friendly.
