I've got an engine that I'll be storing indefinately and was wondering what's the best way to do so. I'll drain all of the coolant, of course, but what about the oil? Should I do anything to the cylinders like squirt some oil in there? TIA for any help. Scot

I'd drain the oil, remove the spark plugs, shoot some oil in there and put the plugs back in,drain gas in carb or remove and put tape over the intake, some cover the exhaust ports too.

Scott,
If you have not removed the engine from the car yet, find a local Marine dealer and get a can of "fogging" oil. It is used to winterize boat engines. You spray it into the carb while the engine is running and it really coats everything internally. Also, Eastwood has a kit that includes some type of dessicant plugs that go into the plug holes to absorb the moisture.
Hope this helps,

BillK, what do you feel about backing off all of the rocker arms for long term storage? Is it necessary? Have you seen springs go "soft" just from being open for extended periods?

I have never seen a problem, but if it is going to be a long time, I would not hurt. Plus it closes the valves ... less chance for anything to get in.

I put mine in the bedroom closet once. The wife wasn't too happy about it though.
