I have a 69 Malibu convert with manual top. Since there is no motor and hydraulic system to hold the top down when it is folded, there was probably some type of clip that mounted nead the front of the folded scissor sections to hold them down if you didn't want to put on the boot for a short trip. I have not been able to find them for sale anywhere and have not been able to get a good photo of one to try to reproduce it myself. Anybody know what I am talking about here?

Mine was power top, but I'd think some long velcro strips would wrap the frame and do the job................

I have never owned a convertible with a manual top, but I know they have large springs (similar to hood springs) to help with raising and lowering the top, in much the same way that the hood springs help you to raise or lower the hood. I believe those springs help hold the top in the lowered position....it is certainly not dependent on the boot to prevent it from flying up when driving!

You need these here. You can get the plastic pieces from Jim Brady at Super Sport Restorations.
Go to the "restoration" forum here on this site and look up the thread on the 4 door big block car, Jim is doing that car and you can get his contact info there.
These are on my 69 Malibu with manual top. I got them from Jim. They arent cheap but where else are you going to get them?

thanks, toocool. that is exactly what I was envisioning. I may have to try building something similar myself if the price is too high.

If you decide to build them I have an extra one here that I could take measurements from so you can get it close to correct. I was going to do that myself since I really only needed one but I just couldnt find anything to make it out of.

Yep, thats the way they were. I had a 67 SS convertible back in 72 and it had a bright blue interior and they were the same on that car, white.
This car had one of the originals on it when I bought it, it was just like this, white.

I'm not worried about 100% original since the car was already changed and it is a low option car. I just want to find something that will serve the intended function. When I bought the car in 94, the last owner was using a bent nail to hold down the top and I figured there had to be a better plan than that. I will probably mill something out of aluminum or steel with that general shape. Thanks all. You always seem to have the answers (eventually).
