i was wondering if anybody has ever tried an Edelbrock Performer intake with a Holley Street Avenger carb(570 cfm).
i have a '72 chev. malibu with 350/TH350 setup. Its the original motor with the 2bbl. carb. I recently recieved a Performer intake & was wondering if it would be better to put a Holley Street Avenger(570 cfm) or an Edelbrock Performer Series(600 cfm) carb.
the only mods. are a pair of Hooker Comp. Headers & 40 series Flowmasters. Any suggestions would help. Thanks in advance.

I have the Performer and the avenger 670. I like it okay but think the 570 might have been a better choice. My only real complaint is the choke performance.

I have had a few of the Edelbrock and AFB carbs, they are pretty adjustable except for the secondaries. They are weighted and if you try to adjust by removing weight your out of luck.
I would like to try the new Avenger 570 on my 305. The 625 AFB bogs baddly if I don't time it correctly.

Bob B ,

Not to change the subject but Edelbrock is now in the process of addressing that very problem you mentioned. They are tooling up to produce an "AVS" carb ( Air Valve Secondary ).These have an easily adjusted secondary air valve simular to a Q Jet.I saw these at the S.E.M.A. show. This will go along way in curing that AFB type problem.Nice looking design and extreamly easy to adj the secondaries.

Malibu_72,

If your engine is basically stock and most likely have 2.73 to 3.08 rear gears and you spinning the engine say up to 4500 RPM or so the something in the 500 to 600 CFM range is more than enough. That should work well.
