How many bolts should there be on the back of a mark IV 454 engine. I am talking about where the bellhousing bolts up. (6 or 7) I just got a W/
P Merlin engine and it has 7 with one at the very top and I don't have the old block or b/h here to compare to. Anyone have a pic??

I counted 6 on the back of my 454 block. If you need to look at it, come on over as the block is on an engine stand.

I would think it is for different tranny options.

Some of the blocks have the extra hole at the top. I have never seen an actual application where it is used, but I am betting either HD truck, or marine.
