I picked one of these up for 150 with accel wires all with 200 miles. I'm not sure what is so great about these distributors but I figured that if I was gonna pay 110 for a new stock HEI I'd pay the extra 40 for this one.
Could you guys tell me a little about this distributor? Is it a good one out of the box? do I need to tweek it? please assume that I am an idiot...... and explain anything you can...

40 coupe and I both had problems with ours. Tach fluctuations and high rpm misses.

I have a complete MSD ignition on my Chevelle. 6AL box,Pro billet distributor, Blaster 2 coil and 8.5mm Super conductor wires. It has been six years since it was installed and I have had no problems and it performs great, my engine seems to run smoother and seems to fire stronger. The only thing I would change with yours would be to get some MSD spark plug wires but thats just me.

You'll need to check the mechanical advance on it. It should have came with a set of springs. These springs have different degrees of pull force. The springs these things usually have in them out of the box are the tighest springs, providing the least amount of advance. Mine, out of the box provided only 6 degress of mech advance which is really low.
