Looking for advise on the proper way to flush out a engine and what is the best product to use. Also does anyone know of any good radiator fushing products, short of having it boiled out?

I just dropped in a quart of kerosine in and drove her easy for about 6 blocks, then drained her and changed oil and filter as usual..

But you may need to use a can of starting fluid or Brake-Clean to dry the sh-t outta your distributor.. I did..

No biggy but it got me excited b/c I thought I had screwed up... It worked VERY well.

And pick a spot to drain it so that you can move the car way from b/c IF you miss some of it coming outta the oil plug, it will make a mess!!! pdq67

When you talk about "Flushing an Engine" I have a vision of all the nasty sludge and goo broken loose and circulating through the oil pump gears, bearings, oil filter and lifters. Maybe even have a big glob stop up the oil pump pickup. :( Don't know, maybe I just have a vivid imagination. Howard

justice brothers has a good product.
I have heard prestone works well too, but make sure you use the cleaner then the flush. I realize some may use the term flush and cleaner in the same context, it's not. the flush is used to neutralize the cleaner remaining in the system. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

I would be hesitant to use anything to try and flush the engine out. Its possible you could break some stuff loose that could clog the screen in the oil pickup on the pump thus dropping your oil supply and pressure. I know people who have had that happen to them. I also know folks that got away with it. If you have a decent running motor I personally wouldn't mess with. As for radiator flushes: Pure water run through either a hose or multiple fill, run to operating temps, and drain is the only way to go. No chemicals, they can eat gaskets.

There are several SAFE ways to flush(clean)an engine. Go to BOBISTHEOILGUY forum (http://theoildrop.server101.com/cgi/ultimatebb.cgi) and search . An oil analysis will spot many issues that cause sludge to occur, and fine tune lubrication requirements.
Auto-Rx,Lube Control, and Scheaffer's #131 Neutra are the most reccomended products.
