: member number! impossible to find...
zooplancton Apr 30th, 11, 11:36 AM man, as much of a following this site has, the usability is absolutely the worst.
I've tried posting many times about how to find member number and I can never get a solid answer...
why isn't the member number shown privately when a user logs into his account in the profile area?
I've spent upwards of 5 grand at ground up and I can't get one single coupon code to use... why even have it?
mods don't answer private messages either.
cmon guys...

Mike Apr 30th, 11, 12:36 PM You need to send a PM to Aidan ,the current administrator http://www.chevelles.com/forums/member.php?u=53044
Dean Apr 30th, 11, 1:20 PM mods don't answer private messages either.
cmon guys...

c'mon brandon, I have never received a PM from you.
If I had, I would have told you the same thing that Mike told you because you are not on my list and have I no idea why not.
This member number for a discount thing is getting to be a big joke because NOBODY seems to want to help with them for some reason.
I even offered to help maintain the member numbering system and got no reply from anyone.
zooplancton May 1st, 11, 12:35 PM sorry dean but I did send a pm to an admin several weeks ago.
I sent aiden a note yesterday as well.
sorry I don't mean to harsh, but I'm a user interface designer and I just have to ask why isn't our own member number showing up in any of our private CP area? it sure would help us out a lot.
may I please obtain my number? can you do this?
can I help in any way with the member number list as you mention above? I'd be more than happy to help out.
thanks.
b
Oh, OK you said "mods" not administrators.
I dunno, seems like it wouldn't be all that hard to keep member's numbers updated or a private-members only page with a list or something.
The vendors that need a members number for a discount are having a very hard time with that.
I'm supposed to give Aidan a reminder tomorrow on another subject but I'll add a link to this thread to 'rattle his cage'.
Might help ,might not but I'll try.
BillsCamino May 1st, 11, 2:35 PM Ground Up seems to make getting a discount a little easier for the Camaro guys...

Just type in NASTY311 under "Customer comments" when you are checking out and we'll still apply the discount for you.
Grumpy May 1st, 11, 9:14 PM To get your member number all you need to do is hover your mouse over your name.
FloodMetro May 1st, 11, 9:27 PM I too am having no luck getting myTC #. I did try with the mouse over my name no luck.
To get your member number all you need to do is hover your mouse over your name.
WRONG that is NOT the member number
Dean May 1st, 11, 11:06 PM To get your member number all you need to do is hover your mouse over your name.
That is not the TC member number.
Administrator May 2nd, 11, 9:38 AM I sent you a PM. I am sorry guys for the wait on these. The previous Admin, Don, didn't leave me much to catch up with and I am working on figuring out how he kept these numbers. Again, I am sorry.
Aidan
zooplancton May 2nd, 11, 9:53 AM thanks a ton dean and aidan. sorry if i was being an ass.

Ground Up May 2nd, 11, 10:05 AM Hey Guys,
This does seem to be a growing problem.
That banner is actually from Nasty Z28 and it is just a promo we are doing. Nasty Z28 members don't automatically get a discount but we run a lot of promos there.
How about for the time being we operate on good faith and have Team Chevelle members put their team names at the order checkout until someone can get this team number thing figured out? (If you DO have your team number then please continue to put it in.)
(As a disclaimer we have to say that if this show of good faith gets abused we will have to go back to requiring the team number.)
Does that sound fair to everyone until a solution is in place for displaying team numbers?
FloodMetro May 2nd, 11, 10:18 AM Thank you for the reply and thank you Aiden for checking on this .
Thanks Ground up for the help also .
Dave
Philip May 2nd, 11, 10:28 AM I can retrieve some member numbers from the Travelers Aid database, but only 187 members have signed onto it.
There used to be a place accessible to moderators to get he member numbers prior to the change in ownership. I remember adding the numbers to most of the accounts in the database.
Dean May 2nd, 11, 11:03 AM Where is that?
Never mind, I found it.
Looks like it has 188 members.
Grumpy May 2nd, 11, 9:32 PM WRONG that is NOT the member number
Sorry for trying to help. Wont do that again.
Mike May 2nd, 11, 11:36 PM Would have been great if it were somewhere where we could get to it
I know Aidan's working on it ,just kind of a mess right now getting it together.
Dave ,don't give up trying to help
Dave Birdwell May 4th, 11, 12:53 PM Sorry for trying to help. Wont do that again.
The number that shows up when you hover over your name is the user ID number. Member numbers are assigned when you pay. Totally different things. I've been here so long I have a 3 digit user ID (455 :D) but my member number was much higher.
But THANKS for trying to help, Dave. I made the same mistake a while back too... :)
Sorry for trying to help. Wont do that again.
Hey, I've been wrong many times also as other folks have too, don't worry about it, someone will correct.
DaleM May 4th, 11, 2:23 PM One has to remember that the forum software isn't home-grown but rather an off-the-shelf product from vBulletin. I know a lot of the templates have been modified for TC but true membership numbers are probably not held in any database supported by the software unlike the generic userid number of the forum - what you get when you mouse over a user's name. Userid numbers are assigned sequentially when one first registers for the forum and is maintained by the software's database.
My userid number is 437 but my TC member number is 92, Dean's userid number is 474 yet his TC member number is 3. As noted, TC member numbers are assigned when one enrolls in a paid membership. To keep those straight, I'm sure there's a database or spreadsheet manually maintained somewhere. To incorporate that into the forum software would certainly be a challenge.
One suggestion might be to put a code on the (I assume) members only area, maybe page http://www.chevelles.com/forums/view.php?pg=discounts. Since (again I assume) only paying members can get to that page, that might be a place for Ground Up to have a member's code word placed. If it's ever found that a paying member gives that code out to a non-paying menber, their membership could be revoked.
Ground Up personnel could periodically check orders with the code against the TC forums to insure they are a paid member. If they (Ground Up) find a violator, they could simply deny the discount.
Yeah and I wanted 454 :D
Sounds like a good idea Dale
Hasn't made sense to me that GU want's a membership # to give a discount.
If we don't know it ,how do they verify it?
I was told that they are given the same list that they gave me which would be OK if all the vendors get the same list (which I ASSUME that they do) AND IF the list was kept current.
Seems it would be much more simple if members had access to their own member number tho.
Would guess that if your list is incomplete ,theirs would be too.
In the previous post from GU

Seems much like Dale's suggestion ,only GU would verify the user name -for now.
Yeah, like I said "IF it was kept current"
On the other hand I can understand new members not being on my November 2010 list but I don't understand why some very old members from way back when are not on it.
nicolemiller Jul 19th, 11, 11:52 AM You can also find your member number by clicking on your profile link like http://www.chevelles.com/forums/member.php?u=61220 this is my profile page so my member number may be 61220.
Dean Jul 19th, 11, 12:10 PM You can also find your member number by clicking on your profile link like http://www.chevelles.com/forums/member.php?u=61220 this is my profile page so my member number may be 61220.
Like Dave was told above, THAT is NOT your member number.
muncher Jul 19th, 11, 12:26 PM Like Dave was told above, THAT is NOT your member number.
Would it be easier to adopt a new system and this number IS your member?
DaleM Jul 19th, 11, 1:59 PM No, not everybody is a paying member and I think that's what GU requests. Just like the two forum members in this thread that are not paying site members, they're confusing the forum's database userid number with a paying member number. I have the same forum software (albeit a newer, different version) and there are no current provisions to assign a paying member number in the software's database. Anytime anyone successfully registers and gets past the spammer check, they get a userid number via the software.
ssdan Jul 21st, 11, 9:15 AM mines been jacked up since 2000, I was a Gold Member #235 as you can see here
http://www.chevelles.com/feature/july2000.html
now it seems I'm non-existent , can't find me in the member database etc.
good luck!!
