I bought a new set of $30 crane fireball pushrods
bcuz im pretty much rebuilding my top end and i noticed that they are slighty longer than the old set.my question is, would i need to move up to a 1.6 from a 1.5 rocker ratio?i was running camel humps with slotted rockers.030 283 mild cam.

Pushrod length is specific to the engine. If everything is stock, stock pushrods will work. If there is a different cam or the heads or block have been milled or the rockers changed then you need to measure to get the right length. Not all rockers on the same engine take the same lenght pushrods. In my case, I have Comp's Pro Magnum 1.6 rockers on the intakes and Harland Sharp 1.5's on the exhaust. The intakes required .100 longer than stock pushrods and the exhaust needed .100 shorter than stock pushrods. You need to setup the valvetrain and check the sweep of the rocker on the valve stem. It wants to be centered on the stem. The ones you have may or may not be the right length. Changing ratios may or may not work with those pushrods.

thanks for your reply pat kelly,it seems i lil complicated,so i might just throw the old rockers and pushrods back on there.I mean there not that worn.but I really wanted to upgrade my valvetrain.I could take it to a speed shop and and pay an arm and a leg for them to set my valvetrai graemlins/thumbsup.gif n up,but i wanna do it myself.if you have anything else to add pls do.thanks

Mark the end of the valve stem with a marking pen. Drop a solid lifter in and setup the valve train. rotate the engine a couple times and see where the rockers ride on the stem. If the mark is centered, you have the right length pushrods. If it is inboard of center, you need longer rods. Outboard, shorter rods. To get the exact length, you need an adjustable pushrod but you can get close by dropping in a readily available longer or shorter PR and checking the stem pattern. It's not hard to do.
