Smkn, i found only basic info on the engine buildups. I am in the process of doing my first big block also and i got 2 books. "How to Rebuild Big Block Chevy Engines" by Tom Wilson and "How to build Max Performance Chevy Rat Motors" by Ed Staffel. I found both of these to be awesome. The first book is all the disassembly and assembly instructions with full details and pictures. The second book is more of a performance oriented book with specs on performance parts and a lot of education about building a well balanced combo that will make awesome power. You can make more power out of a 454 than you will ever need on the street very easily. I got both of these books off of amazon and they were like 25 for the both. Well worth it if it is your first time.

Bought the same two books as Stickman and I agree. Book one (wilson) is all about stock rebuilds and book two (staffel)covers performance aspects. If your on a budget, get book two. I dought youll find all that info on the net in one place.

"How To Build and Modify Chevrolet Big-Block V-8 Engines" by Tom Currao is the best on the market. I own both of the above mentioned as well and this one takes 'em both, hands down. You'll see more of the same stuff he talks about recommended here and on other websites than the others combined. He goes much more in depth about parts combination and selection than the others and I find his stuff more practical as well. Of course, Reher-Morrison's top end and bottom end books are supposed to be the cat's meow, but they're a bit pricey. I'm hinting for my girlfriend to send me to their assembly school, but somehow I don't think that's gonna happen... HTH

PDQ,
I bought mine from Borders several years ago. Try the local book stores. Also, try some of the used book shops.
