When you install a new cam or a new engine you are always told to break in the cam before you drive it but I was wondering if Chevrolet ever broke in any of there cams/engines before the car made it to the showrooms ? there were alot of higher solid lift cammed moters that came off the assembly line did anybody break those in? just a thought?

I believe that, by the 60's, all engines were hot tested by the engine plant to set timing and inspect for oil leaks.

They were actually fired on natural gas at the assembly plant. For the reasons Fred stated.

They still test fire engines on nat gas, and just like today, they didn't do a true break-in.
