Can anyone decode a block for me?

Casting number is 14015445

Also cast on the bellhousing flange is B7 4

On the front deck was stamped CE3325074

The seller claimed it was a 74 block, but according to the book I have and Mortec.com, it would be a 78-90 block?

What can be derived from the above cast and stamped numbers???

Sounds like a Mid 80s Crate LS-6 or 454 H.O. The date code on the bellhousing flange looks like Feb 7 84. Is it a two bolt or four Bolt? Sounds close too the Same motor I pulled out of my El-Camino,wich is a 454 LS-6 Crate Motor. Hope that helps.

C=Chevy truck
E =1984 model year
3= Detroit truck assembly plant
325074=sequence number

Did you check for suffix code stamp front,top of engine above the timing cover? It's an alternate location for 454's

It's a two bolt block...will go check the pad above the timing cover.

Todd, I think your right. That's the same casting number as my 454. Mine is like an '87 truck 2 bolt.

numbers on the timing cover pad are...

T0214FBK

T=Tonawanda engine plant
0214=Feb 14th engine assembly date
FBK= 1984 454/230hp LE-8 truck

Now, is this thing worth a darn for performance usage in reference to casting quality and cylinder thickness? Are the later model blocks any thinner than the older ones?

got the whole engine disassembled with 049 heads for $250...has the true truck 3/8" rods too (rounded in the large end of the beam). Crank was cast.

Only plan to use the block and store everything else. I do have a possible lead on a 4 bolt block. If I can get that, this may be kept as a spare. This block is already .030 and needs a sleeve in one hole. Not perfect, but could be made to be servicable if I can't come up with a better alternative.
