i am starting to collect all the info i can find on my winter project- 94 Caprice iron head LT1 with the complete GMPP HOT cam kit in my 4 speed (maybe Tremac 5 speed) Nova.
how will the stock ECM react to the HOT cam? it's actually a pretty mellow cam- in the carb fed, Vortec headed 355 currently in the Nova, it idles at 800 with a very slight lope and has 17" of vacuum. the iron LT1 heads are pretty much the same as the vortecs (they will be getting a valve job and screw in studs), and the LT1 will be getting the crank, rods, pistons, cam, lifters, pushrods, and rocker arms from the current 355, so the only real changes to the combo are the efi and reverse flow cooling of the LT1 engine, along with the change from the electronic 4L60e in the Caprice to either the current 4 speed T10 or a 5 speed Tremac 600 tranny.
so, in summary- will i need to get the puter reprogrammed, or will it live well with the bigger cam and lack of auto tranny to control?

My suggestion would be to visit the ImpalaSS Forum and (in addition) get ahold of Brian Herter at PCMFORLESS. Between the two, you should get a plethora of info...

Yep, what MikeT said. You will find a host of information on LT-1 tuning that yuu are looking for. I've used Bryan for reprogramming my LT-1 and he does good work.

LT4 vette computer/chip. Just make sure the vss and all other sensors work. Will need simulators for the rear O2 sensors.
Custom program might be cheaper. Although, with some research, I'm sure you could find someone to burn a stock LT4 program into your PCM for a small fee. Much cheaper than a pro. lots....
I think the 94 is still an OBDI computer, so the tune is a lot easier. Definitely check some other boards. Try the 4th gen camaro boards. Will need to look for non LS1 info though.

The 94 computer is a flash based unit. It will need to be reprogrammed for the standard and possibly for the VATS depending on what you do with the harness. The computer will also control 2 stages of cooling fans and that can be programmed too. The fans turn on at a fairly high temp in stock form. The computer could also drive an electronic speedo if the gear ratio is programmed correctly.

The 94 does not have rear O2 sensors so that won't be a problem. These are the O2's behind the cat converters that are installed in OBDII cars.

Anytime I've read something about tuning LT1's, Byan's name always seems to be held in high regard. If you can't do it yourself or find someone else get him to set it up.

A lot of good info on www.LT1Tech.com (http://www.LT1Tech.com) When we looked into setting up the LT1 in the F-Bird, we found out that most of the milder mods - hot cam and a little port work - were already worked out by the programmers. Pretty much spell out the specs for your combo and they have most of the combo's already figured out.

For what its worth, we installed headers, exhaust and some intake tract upgrades, threw in a new set of O2 sensors, left the power down for a couple of days in the process and just let the computer figure it out.

Unless you go with a really huge cam with a lot of overlap or step up the injectors, you may not be that far off.
