: What should I offer...

A small auto wrecker near me has 2 big blocks in his engine shed. The first is a 396 out of a 70 Chevelle with approx 60,000 miles on it, the second is a 454.

I didn't have the time to get casting #'s off either engine but will do so the next time I am back there.

He said "Make me an offer" when I asked him what he wanted for them. So.... what do you guys think? This is in Canada by the way, that might affect rarity of these older BB engines.

Cheers!

I'd say he doesn't know exactly what they're worth if he said "make an offer." I'd low ball the heck outta him. A good rebuildable BB around here is $400 and up. So hit him with like $300 for both. Maybe less if you think you can get away with it.

Ive seen long block cores go for about 400-450, and I've had a wrecker offer me a running 396 out of a truck {looked like hell} for 1000 and I wasnt about to pay that. I wouldnt pay too much unless hes willing to gaurantee them, Id hate to see you pay alot for a JUNK motor. Id offer him (if its ALL there) $500 and see what he says, you mignt get lucky.
