I'm installing a 1973 454 truck motor into my 71 chevy 3/4 ton 4X4. I'm using a 76 HEI, and so I'm buying new plugs and wires. Went to the parts store last night, can't just use the 73 application for the motor because it's points that year, and I decided to use plugs for a 76 454 application(with HEI). Problem is, the heat range is a couple ranges hotter, with an extended tip in 76 with the R45TS, gapped at 0.045". The 71-73 application with points calls for a R43(365HP) and R44(425HP)standard tip(not extended) at 0.035" gap, which are colder plugs. Wondering what some of you folks have done in similar situations?
