Hey guys, i am still trying to ID this camshaft that i have. This is what i have to go on so far. I got it from a guy who used to work for GM. He told me it was the GM ZL1 solid lifter camshaft part # 3959180. I thought this was confirmed by the fact that it had the part # stamped into the end of it. I have now heard that this isn't necessarily a confirmation that this is a genuine camshaft, so here is where you guys come in. Here is every bit of information i could glean about this camshaft from visual inspection.

Starting on the end with the distributor gear, so the "back".

There is a blue paint mark on the end. The numbers 3959180 are stamped very lightly as if by hand. On the same end, the face, there are the #'s 891197 stamped. They are a little heavier than the other #'s.

Down the shaft after the gear is the letter H, and opposite from that on the other side of the shaft is the number 10.

Down one lobe between the lobes is the combination D2, opposite of that is C2.

Down further 2 lobes is the letters CWC.

The middle two sections of lobes don't have any letters or numbers cast into them, just a yellow paint mark on the second set from the "back" end of the cam.

On the last set or lobes, or the "front" set if the cam were in the engine there is RSCL cast and immediately below that a 65. These are both between the first lobe on the shaft and the fuel pump lobe.

On the end with the tab and 3 mounting holes there are no markings or stampings.

Guys, i really appreciate any help that you could offer me. I have this thing sitting around with no idea what it is, and if i could sell if for a couple of bucks to get more BBC parts for my buildup i would love it. Thanks a lot for reading all of this and any help you can offer.

Daniel, Original GM ZL-1 cams never had the full P/N stamped on them but rather the number "9181". My guess is someone is trying to pass it off as a GM original to some unsuspecting person. You might try talking with Dave Maxwell at Crane Cams Tech Support. He will probably tell you this is an old Wolverine Blue Racer performance cam (now owned by Crane)..

David, yeah, i have heard that about the original cams. That is another thing that lead me to doubt this cams origins. I got this cam as part of a parts deal. I got a screaming deal on the parts even if the cam weren't included, so its not like i am loosing out.

I will call Crane tomarrow and see what they have to day. If i can also get a chance i might drive out to my parents house and measure it. My pops was a machinist at the Livermore Lawrence National Laboratory before he went on medical leave. He has all the tools that i would need to measure it, but that won't be for a couple of weeks probably.

I agree with David Bates it's not a chev. cam. There were many people making their own version including Crane. Either way sell it you don't want that thing in any car you own. I personally consider it one of the worst designs ever made.
