On the average, how long does it take a rebuilder to rebuild and engine? I'm talking boring, and reconditioning/installing bigger valves. My guy has had it for almost 2 months. I don't want to be a PITA, but I need my baby back on the road before the 1st snow!!! :(

Depending on how busy he is, I'd say 2-3 weeks max. Rebuilding a motor is tedious work, he may be busy with simpler, quicker, easier work??? What kind of turn around time did he give you?

He didn't give me a date. He was kinda busy though.

I'm afraid if I pressure him he may not do as nice a job

I suggest calling him and asking how he is coming along. At that time you can ask when he expects to have it done. It could be he keeps putting off doing it because he thinks you are not in any hurry. 2 months is very long. If this is a stock rebuild, it should have been done in a few days. A performance build takes longer but it sounds like you are pretty far down his priority list. A super HiPo engine, with several mockups, takes about 30-40 hours to build. A stock rebuild takes just a few hours.

2 Months, he's not working on yours any longer, if he even started. You might want to get a commitment from another shop, with a completion date, pick your stuff up and take it over. He will charge you if any work has been done, you'll owe it so pay it, then get over it because the new place will probably want to re-do to their satisfaction. Also, and a big also, if you are supplying parts, it will ALWAYS take longer. The shops make some of their margin buy selling parts. They will work on jobs with the largest profit.

Hell, the machine shop I took my crank to, to get polished and my intake to bead blasted has had it for 2 1/2 weeks. That's too long for that.
