Ok, what freshens up a stock distributor. I took mine apart and cleaned off all the varnish on the shaft. When I took the plate that the points sit on off, it seemed there was a lock ring on the top of the shaft but it discengrated when I took it off. Any idea what this might be called? Do you buy new weights/springs or any reason to?
PS:Justin took it apart. I watched.

I want to chime in on this, since I helped John pull the thing apart. Man, varnish makes that shaft bind up doesn't it! http://www.chevelles.com/forum/wink.gif
Where exactly are all the bushings that people talk about replacing? I think they are called shaft bushings, but I'm not sure.
There is also a gauze-like ring that came out in fair condition. Is a complete rebuild kit with all these little pieces available at local parts stores?
We also could not remove the centerplate from the inner shaft. I've rebuilt an HEI (minus the bushings) and this removed easily. What exactly is there to a points distributor that you can or cannot do as opposed to an HEI? Any help, tips, hints, etc. for John and I would be greatly appreciated. I'm getting sick of seeing his 67 disassembled in his garage. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/tongue.gif

Thanks for the help last night Justin. Glad we did not go to Cape last night. SNOW AGAIN!
I may take that other distributor apart but it is a 76 distributor. I noticed 69 and prior are different. I hate to put that one back together without that little ring on top.
