I'm thinking about a Tri-Power setup on my 327-300. Any advice on intake manifold (who makes them, where to find them etc...) and 3-deuce carb selection? I want total CFM to be somewhere between 600 and 650 if possible.

Sure, I think Offy and E-brock both still make 3x2 intakes for the SB motors. For Rochesters AND just maybe Stromberg 94's or 97's????

Somebody posted this a while back when this topuic came up so I saved it for times like this!!

"2G = Manual choke mostly used on truck and marine applications.
2GC = automatic choke... used on most everything.
2GV = automatic choke of a vacuum break design.
1 1/4 in flange carb.
1 7/16 in bore with 1 3/32 venturi = 278 CFM
-------------------------------------------------
1 1/2 in flange carbs... 1 11/16 bore.
1 3/16 venturi = 352 CFM
1 1/4 venturi = 381 CFM
1 5/16 venturi = 423 CFM
1 3/8 venturi = 435 CFM

All the Rochester 2 bbl carbs above rated at 3.0 in HG."

Use stock 2G or 2GC rochester's off anything you can find nowadays such as a 348 "W" motor, J-2 Olds or old big Pontiac both from the latter '50's!!

And don't forget about GTO tri-power carb's but usually the "Goat" guy's want them....

Heck, I have a set of real trip carb's laying in the pass side front seat of my car that I grabbed on to years and years ago back in school!! The two outer carb's don't have any chokes or idling jets, they are mainly just fuel dumps!! I think they are little, 1-1/4 flange ones????

I was always going to use them but you know how it goes???

Hope this helps..

Just copied that and mailed it to myself.

Thanks pdq67.

Will those things leave enough room for a HEI? (I don't think so, but not sure)

The Edelbrock wont fit an HEI, I just checked their page at http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive/index.html the 3X2 is at the very bottom. Oh, thanks for the help guys smile.gif

I am not into the Barry Grant Trip thing after seeing what they want fot the set!! What is it, $2400 or so?????

AND there is somebody out here in my neck of the midwest part of the country that sells new intakes with rebuilt Rochester trip set-ups ready to go for like $1000 or $1200 or so if you are interested..

I just can't recall the company's name???

My Offenhauser/Holley (Mopar 440+6) set was originally installed on a 327. I put it on a 283, then on a 350, then on a 400 with HEI.

Damned expensive, I couldn't buy it again for under $1300, if that. The HEI took lots of work to fit, I'd buy a different distributor if I was doing it again.

The Mopar/Vette carbs are just over 900 CFM rated as a 4-bbl.

BG has a new 3x2 Setup with the carbs and manifold.

I didn't even know you could buy a 3x2 intake to fit Holley's on SB's b/c I thought they were too long, long-ways all together to fit right????

What manifold do you have them on??

Moon makes an EFI setup that 'looks' like 3 Strombergs. But if $2400 worries you, don't even think about the Moon setup, (near $4k when done)

My manifold is a standard dual-plane Offy 3X2, with the Rochester 4-bolt pattern. There are three Holley-to-Rochester adaptor plates on top, and the Holley carbs bolt to the adaptors. I carved the rear plate and manifold under the carb for HEI clearance on a milling machine. The casting is hugely thick.

The Holley carbs are actually spaced the same between the front and center carbs as the Corvette/Holley system, but the rear carb is about 1/2 inch farther to the rear. (Haven't tried, but I think there's space for a metering block.) I'm using a slightly modified 'Vette triangle air cleaner. Had to cut a bit of clearance into the "D" opening for the rear carb, and fill in the front of the "D" to suit the carb spacing.

Boy, that sounds about as much work as I did to a cast-iron, 348 "W" motor, 3x2 intake to put three big Rochester two barrels on it off 389 Pontiac two barrel motors for my full house, .060" over 409 "W" motor years ago.

Except I had to raise the rear one about an inch..

Sure couldn't fit the beautiful 409 Chrome topped breather on the sucker after I got done thou.....
