I need help setting the lash on my cam. Running a solid roller 587 lift 558 dur. or a 454LS6. If I set by the book 26/28 cold the power dropes off around 5500rpm plus they are quite noisy. I read that setting these solid rollers at 6 or even 0 lash when cold does wonders. This bothers me as I don,t want to destroy this motor. I was thinking that setting them a little tight say around 12 to see if this will help.

No, you cant just pick a lash and set it there. You set the lash to "0" and I guarantee you waste some exhasut valves.

Every manufactuer will give you a range to work with on a particular grind. I think Crane's was +6 or -4 thou. What "book" are you referring to?? The stock specs were 26 intake /28 exhaust hot??I think you could probably go 3-4 thou tight with no worries, try 23/25 hot, or 24/26 cold on a iron head (19/21 on an alum head cold).

Are you using the EO/IC method to set them??

It either that or your springs are allowing float at a pretty low rpm. ( or its something else all together).

valve lash it seems everyone has a better way to do it but the bottom line is follow your cam makers instructions make sure all components match the cams requirements you can usually get any info you need from your cam grinders web site ok now go and make some H.P.

Thanks guys. I,ll try 24/26 and I plan on changing the springs this spring. The specs. I got were from Crowler, but it seemed strange that these are the same as a stock LS6. Anyway after getting the cam set, I have to try to figure out the carb. I,am running a street avenger 870 but everyone says with this cam I need a mech. secondary carb. I hope I don,t as this carb. runs great on the street and it,s brand new. I just hope its good enough with the 200 hit of N2 that I plan to use.
