for all who are always knee deep in parts...
how much EC does everyone put back together? i'm mostly concerned with my '70 chevelle but i'm looking at my '86 suburban rebuild and wondering what the heck i need all those vacuum lines running around for, half of which are probably useless anywaY? i like my chevelle's originality but do i sacrifice performance when i'm not required emmissions testing?

Gopeck,
I like to breath fresh air ! Keep the emmisions controls, especially on the Suburban. They do not affect performance if they are operating properly.

Bill's right on. Taking off emission stuff without understanding the system can cause problems. A common one is detonation caused by disconnecting the EGR. The "If I don't know what it does, I'll just trash it" approach is not a good way to go.
