: Site moderator options...
fishhead Feb 23rd, 11, 7:43 PM When someone makes a reply in a thread and the moderator feels the need to remove the post...
Are there options other then deleting and closing the thread?
Are the rules here to just delete the post and close the thread?
Cant the mod just delete the misconstrued text and allow the rest of the post to continue? Perhaps with a "edited by mod, please watch what you post"?
Thx...
grandsport Feb 23rd, 11, 11:08 PM Hi buddy.:waving:

Yeh only I didn't reference sex life in the post...It was totally a hypothetical that was IMO was misread...
But anyway...before I get booted from my favorite place in cyberworld, I'll just go back to reading other threads and just conclude that the mods don't have any other options then deleting a reply.
Dean Feb 24th, 11, 6:26 PM Specifically Greg's daughter's sex life.
Welp, I tried to delete it quietly but that didn't happen. :clonk:
fishhead Feb 24th, 11, 6:50 PM Specifically Greg's daughter's sex life.
Welp, I tried to delete it quietly but that didn't happen. :clonk:
1st. I don't even know if Greg has a daughter.
2nd. The post in the beginning was stated a hypothetical.
3rd. My post made no mention of any sexual act that I am aware of...i wouldnt make a post about someones daughter like that...and some that talked in chat that read my post agree...
4th. You made the whole thing worse by posting what you did when you closed the thread. Next time a mod wants to lock a thread that has something the mod feels is inappropriate just forget about adding a reply...it just made the whole situation something it wasn't. We know I made no mention of Gregs daughter (?) and sex.
5th. Since I don't want my membership denied, dropped, banished, kicked, booted, etc...I'm going back to reading other threads...

Dean Feb 24th, 11, 8:27 PM First of all please don't try to tell me how to do this job.
99.9% of people wouldn't have ever even seen anything at all about you comparing an LS6 engine to Greg's daughter switching close with a man and sleeping together IF you hadn't immediately tried to make me the bad guy for deleting before I even had a chance to finish what I was doing.
Like I said, I tried to quietly edit it out as fast as I could in hopes that not very many people would even see it but you had to go a post about it forcing me to say why I edited that stuff out or look look like a fool otherwise from your comments.
Then you still refused to let it dye by posting about it again here. :clonk:
Mentioning another member's daughter to win an argument is just not cool but he wouldn't have known anything at all about it if you hadn't brought it up again right away.
Dave Birdwell Feb 24th, 11, 8:47 PM Yeah, it got locked in the middle of me making a reply about the LS6 engine... way to go, guys... :D
69ssmike Feb 24th, 11, 8:51 PM Yeah, it got locked in the middle of me making a reply about the LS6 engine... way to go, guys... :D
Are ya going to make an offer Dave:D, so we can start another thread?:hurray:
fishhead Feb 25th, 11, 1:35 PM Sex CHANGE Mr. Dean...
Not sex...
SEX CHANGE...
It was mentioned in another post in the same thread...Greg even replied to it...
I think it also had to do with my VIN comments which were right on the money too...
Rich-L79 Feb 25th, 11, 2:02 PM Well, sometimes we delete something from public view until we have time to edit it. Some moderators edit, others just delete chunks, probably also depends on lots of various factors too. I've tried to edit up an entire thread to clean out the crap, then gave up and deleted the entire thing because it wasn't worth the time and effort and the players involved and left a lot of posts to clean up. You also have to keep in mind that most of us have jobs and personal lives and don't spend 24/7 on here with nothing else to do. We do our best and often make decisions on moderating in which we are damned if we do and damned if we don't.
I'd hate to see what this place would look like if we didn't have moderators who do take the time to help and put forth the effort.....
69ssmike Feb 25th, 11, 2:18 PM I agree it's a thankless job.I think you guys do a great job and a big THANKYOU!!!!!!
OK, enough brown nosing back to trolling for trouble.:D
Elcoman Feb 25th, 11, 5:00 PM If I was a mod, I would give Shane a timeout.l:)
IBTL:D
Mods keep up the great work, I know that I and many others appreciate it.
grandsport Feb 25th, 11, 11:46 PM Beside the people selling shoes from Nigeria, are there really that many unsavory characters here that moderators are really needed to voice their opinions if they only disagree with a post?

I am a mod and would have given Shane a timeout for attitude. But in addition to that I would have deleted the entire thread because although it was placed as a What is Worth thread and it is clearly an ad to sell.
We do the best we can, there are about 10 active moderators and only a few that can moderate all the forums. With close to 59,000 users with over 1000 online most days our task can be daunting at times. Everyone agrees to the rules when they register so do not feel like your toes are being trampled when we step in to do what we feel is needed. BTW you can not divide and conquer, we are all in agreement with how the site needs to be handled and have been at this for a very long time.

Naaa, we don't need any moderators, none of the 58,192 people here would ever need editing. :D
Look, the thread had 235 replies, many comparing motors to whatever so comparing to a member's daughter's sex life was the last straw, especially since the thread had long played out anyway.
The original poster didn't complain when I deleted his "for sale" post, BTW.
Not sure if you are joking or not or just trying to bring this thread back up to keep it going Gary, IF not joking, I'm sure you would feel different if it had been about your daughter.
I felt that the post was not appropriate and edited it, not simply because I disagree with anyone's opinion as you IMPLY.
ENOUGH OF THIS CRAP

JWagner Mar 2nd, 11, 2:08 PM Over the years here, the unsavory and inflammatory characters have been shown the door. I think that went a long way toward discouraging other wise guys. So, the actual need to edit posts is probably pretty limited. But, every once in a while it will get done.
