Pulled my distributor the other day when I was doing an intake swap. I check the endplay and it feels like a lot of slack there. I don't have a dial caliper, but I can get access to one.
What is the minimum and maximum spec on this...and where do I get additional shims if I need some? Thanks!

Justin,
Just about ANY aftermarket/hi-perf source sells shims for distributors. Check the various perf magazines for ads about distributors. At one time, GM sold 2 different thicknesses of dist shims, one was .005 (now discontinued) and one was .020 (I think). The second one may still be available from GM. I shim distributors to about .008-.010. I would prefer to shim a dist to about .002.004, but after heating up and expanding, I feel that it could become too tight.
If you have absolutely no success locating shims, call (405-745-8383) or email me at home.
Jegs and Summit have them in a kit of assorted thicknesses.

I got my shims right at the Chevy dealership parts counter. Guy looked at me like I was nuts. "You want shims for a 1970 distributor? We aren't going to have those!". I said, just look them up anyway. Well, there they were and in stock!! The packet had about 20 years of dust on them.

I'm not saying where I got mine from, ;) ;) but NAS aircraft washers work very well. They have smaller outer diameters than SAE automotive washers, and they're available in different thicknesses.
