Okasy, I realize this should be easy, but I'm just not seeing it... graemlins/clonk.gif

Have a set of peanut heads (346236) on a 454 currently and I noticed yesterday as we were breaking down the peanuts that the square water holes in the middle of the intake side of the heads are only 1/2-covered by the AirGap intake.
The square set of holes are broken up into various smaller holes that form the square, but only the lower half are covered by the intake manifold.

This is one of those things that I never noticed before and may not be an issue, but on the other hand...

The intake doesn't have holes at all that match this part, but if it doesn't cover those on the heads, what seals it up...???

I also should probably mention that the 236s are going in the trash and a set of 215s are going on in their place.

It appears the 215s have the same configuration.

Anyone ???

ditto,
If it is the hole I am thinking of, that is not a water passage. It goes nowhere. I actually think it allows air to help cool the middle exhaust crossover area. It is usually uncovered as you describe.

I looked at it more closely and it's actually a "dual" set of holes. The center square hole leads thru the head and out the exhaust port - the gasket has a hole for this. The other holes may or may lead anywhere, but they appear sealed by the gasket as there are no holes. They look like they have some water deposits, but it may be just old scale...

Weird designs they do - it worried me for a minute!

Curt,
The first time you see it it does look weird. I am pretty sure it is for cooling the exhaust crossover area in the head.

Thanks Bill - we've got bigger things to worry about as the engine goes back together and we finish this project!
