hi guys, i had started a thread awhile back in the body shop section showing my quarter panel and mini tub but am getting into the rollcage and actiual rear suspension going in so i'm starting a new thread in this section, my car isn't backhalved or a full tub, but the frame has been notched and full aftermarket tubs were used. I will be running a 315/60 drag radial and 10.5W slicks at the track possibly. i plan to run stock type suspension but its tubular adjustable upper and lowers with heim joints, and it will have AFCO coil over shocks

where i'm at right now is installing the cage, here are a few progress pics, i've pretty much got most of the cage tacked in place and will start finish welding soon, the body is raised 6 inches off the frame right now so i can weld the tops of the cage and the cage to the frame easier

any questions, please ask
any criticism, flame away, LOL

i will post more pics as i progress farther, showing the rest of the cage, the body back on the frame and the rear suspension, shock install

THANKS team chevelle for the ideas and motivation!

Cool lookin' cage. Did you make any other mods to the frame ?(boxing, rienforcing?) I found a rust free frame for my 67 and i'm looking at doing something similar. Mini tubs but cage delete.

Thanks Paul

i bought a cage and funny car conversion kit from Alston Race Cars in Antioch, IL
i did the funny car part a little different from the instructions they give, but it still meets all SFI 25.5 requirements after i add two more tubes

the frame i cut the outer edge off and removed about two inches, then made a plate out of 1/4 that matched the frame coontour and welded it in place, i plan to post some pics of the modified frame

If you plan to install a headliner now is the time. You won't be able to get it in once the cage is in place. I did mine the same way and installed the headliner before I bolted the chassis back up.

followed the thread in the body shop section and wasn't sure if you mentioned which wheel tubs you used. Was wondering on size you ended up using and brand. Thinking of doing the same setup on my 67, but minus the roll cage since it will just be a street car. And plan on running either295s or 315s. I have to replace my rusted out wheel wells anyways and figure it is a qaurter of the price to buy tubs then to buy originals anyways. Then I can use the extra money saved on the suspension parts. Thanks

I used competition engineering tubs, and i used the smaller size, i want to say 32" but i would have to look in Jegs or Summit to be sure of that. I plan to hopefully drop the rear suspension out again for some work and will take pics of the frame so you can see what it looks like now

and yes, i plan to put in the headliner before bolting the body back to the frame for good

Troy, Your car is looking good. Just wondering if you have run this car before with the 496 or in the process of being finished. Just curious about E.T. numbers and what the engine makes off nitrous. Would you share engine specs? Thanks.

sorry, the car has never been ran

I honestly don't even have the motor built. My plan was to copy a motor that was in Car Craft awhile back that made i believe close to 700HP. I plan to build it "on the cheap" just to get the car running and build another motor for down the road after i have figured out the suspension, and worked the bugs out of the car. My goal is to have it run with the 496 some low 11's on motor and spray the car into the 9's, just not sure how far into the 9's due to lack of horsepower :-)

eventually long term, it will be certiffied to 7.50 but i'd be more than happy with some mid to low 8's

got the rear bars and shock crossmember all figured out and tacked in, pre fit the shocks to make sure they will work....they are

time to finish welding all this dam tubing up, add the rest of the bars that are needed, get the cage in some primer and start working on getting the body of the car in primer and ready for some willow green

yes, the left front wheel is a little off as far as camber, but it comes back fine when there isn't a push on it like right there, rolling the car forward makes it all come right back

Your 66 looks great. I am building a 67 right now myself. It had a back half installed when I bought it in April 2011. We are getting ready for final prime right now. Hope it turns out looking as well as the paint on yours. Any new pics?

Thats a cool car. I hope my 67 GTO comes out half as nice as your car.

I agree with you, when you can't afford to let someone else do it for you, you learn how to do it yourself.

been doing a lot of the small things lately, waiting for carpet to get here so i can put the carpet, seats, etc in.....all wiring is about wrapped up except for ignition and taillight harness that i'm again....waiting for. So to kill my time i decided to re-do the nitrous lines, i've got the trunk about wrapped up just waiting for my fuel cell to get here
