: Oil filter help ASAP please
ssal396 Jun 9th, 04, 5:53 PM Has anyone used a PF 1218 on a 69 chevelle (bbc) with headers?? I went to my local GM dealer to find pf 25 filters & the idot behind the counter told me that the PF 1218 was the new part # for the PF 25 graemlins/clonk.gif .... It looks the same, but it's a little longer. I am about to put the motor in & want to prime it on the stand & I don't rember how much room I have down there...
TIA,
Scott
rocks66ss Jun 9th, 04, 6:50 PM What I want to know is, why is the guy an idiot, not idot, for giving you the correct replacement part? Beings they don't make the 25-35 filter anymore! Was just wondering.

ssal396 Jun 9th, 04, 7:58 PM I guess I should have cooled down before posting, but the reason I refered to him as an idot, is besause he gave me that filter as an "exact replacement to the PF 25.. I am trying to get this engine in my car tonight, & don't know if this filter will work.....
BillK Jun 9th, 04, 8:13 PM Scott,
I think you are correct. I am pretty sure the new number for the PF25 is PF454. The PF1218 is a newer filter, I am pretty sure thats what is on my 99 Tahoe. If you go to the AC Delco online catalog and do a search for the oil filter on any of the early cars, PF454 is what comes up. I have a catalog at the shop, but that wont help you this evening.
By the way, the parts guys (most of them anyways) just look at the computer. If they enter PF25, and it says to use a PF1218 ... that is what they are going to sell. I think I would have to wait and make sure.
SSuper Dave Jun 9th, 04, 9:39 PM A PF1218 is a PF35 with an anti drainback valve in it. Its a little longer that a PF25 and holds a bit more oil. One fit my '68 427 with Hooker headers with no problem.
BillsCamino Jun 9th, 04, 10:13 PM I've got a PF1218 on my car right now. Fits great...no problems with Hooker Super comp 2 1/8".
sobever066 Jun 10th, 04, 12:52 AM I am using a PF1218 on my 66 with 2 inch primary headers on my bbc. It fits just fine.
I use the PF 1218 on all my drivable cars:
99 Burb (454)
Old Blue (68 with 454)
69 Camaro (427) (stolen :( )
88 Monte SS (454--naw just kidding smile.gif 305)
BTW you can get the AC PF1218 at Autozone for $3.99 . I believe the dealer charges double that.
I go to a local parts place called Universal Lift. They are an authorized AC Delco dealer. If you ask for a "Fleet " PF 25 or 35, they have them. You have to buy a case of 24, but they are still made. Anyone want the phone number?
ssal396 Jun 10th, 04, 8:55 AM Thanks for the info guys, we never got the engine in the car last night anyway, top end went torether really SLOW...
Bill, the PF 454 is shorter than the 25, thats what the parts guy tried to sell me before the 1218, but I really didn't want to loose any filtering capacity..
Chevelle292Wagon Jun 11th, 04, 11:30 AM After a couple calls to ACDelco it turns out that the real truth is pf25 is replaced by pf454 and pf35 is replaced by pf1218.
The new numbers both have anti-drain backs in them which should get oil pressure up sooner when you start engine.
I've been using a 1218 on inline sixes for a while now(even if tech/lawyer at ACDelco couldn't/wouldn't say it worked)
The inline motors mount filter side ways so it seemed like a great idea to me.
The real truth? I don't understand that statement. Call 810 742-7070. Ask for Brian. Tell him you want PF25 or PF35 in the Fleet package. Do you want to see a receit or a picture of the case of filters?
