I've gotta 406 sbc and I've been told that I should get rid of my mechanical fan and replace it with an electric fan or two fans. The car will be an everyday driver. I think I'm around 400 horses or so and just thought that maybe electric fans could add a little more. Any Advice?!?

Stick in a Mark VIII fan and a temp switch and never worry about overheating. The fans go for $100 new at houston performance. Make sure you have a good altenator, they draw about 40 amps.

With the large radiator you can fit the Winstar fans in there too. You can pull them from the wrecking yard, pretty reasonable.

Couple of pics of my installation http://home1.gte.net/res096qi/71Elky.htm

Heres a link from John's page which has a lot of info running them on his high powered BB in Texas. http://members.aol.com/jnkb2cool/fans.html

I have a windstar set up but I dont think I would go with one on a daily driver. Your stock mechanial with a shroud in good working order is more than adequate. It dont rob that much HP either.

Here are a list of pros and cons
1 its a fairly cheap upgrade if you use parts outa a junk yard(windstar fan or the like)

2 it is still money that you dont need to spend and will give you very few hp per $$$

3 like I said not much performance to gain but it is basicly free hp, it is just removing parasitic loss

4 you get the cool wow factor

5 gives you more controll over your cooling

6 you can run your fans and cool your motor a bit when its not running(water aint circulating though so its not a really big help)

7 you can turn it off when going through high water if you wheel your car http://www.chevelles.com/forum/tongue.gif

8 a bigger tax on your elec system(they pull alot of juice)

I think a stock set up is the ticket but thats up to you to decide
