Hello everyone. I am starting to do a TPI install on my 64 chevelle and have a question. I am swapping out the power glide for a 700r4. I am wondering if everyone used the stock neutral safety switch and shifter set up or did you wind up using an aftermarket set up?

Thank....

I have a 67ss396 that came with a floor shift/console powerglide. I use the stock shifter but converted it to a cable actuation (shiftworks) kit. the stock neutral switch/reverse lights works good but you will need to adjust the throw slightly. the 700r4 is a nice upgrade....

I bought a Kugal for my column shift '67 2004-R conversion. All of the gears fit in the range of motion but the detents don't work because of the gears being in different places. It would be nice if someone made a detent plate but so far no luck. You will have the same concerns as I believe that the detent were all in the steering column until '68. If you have a floor shift or want to convert, there are all kinds of kits for that (as mentioned above). You do have to modify the back up light switch on a column shifter since reverse is in a different place and as you know, you will need a shortened and rebalanced drive shaft.

Shiftworks is the kit I was looking at. I was thinking of going that route ,but just wanted to see if anyone else did it differently.

Did you just use the cable or did you buy the whole set up? Do the gears lock in correct on the shifter?

I forgot to mention the shifter is on the floor.

Thanks...
