Hey guys, i am getting ready to install my timing chain tonight, and was wondering if a cam locking plate is really a necessity? I have normal bolts and lock-tite that i can use, but do i need the plate kit or will i be fine? Thanks a lot guys, i am just looking for opinions. If i can just do it normall i can do it tonight, if not i have to wait for the order.

Also is a cam thrust bearing necessary, or can you just bolt up the main sprocket to the cam and go with it? Thanks

Daniel

I always used them on race motors that saw a lot of rpm but none of my street cars ever had one. If you have one use it they are cheap and won't hurt anything. If you don't have one and are in a hurry just locktite the bolts. I wouldn't worry about the thrust bearing.

The cam button is only necessary if you have a roller cam. If you have the button but no plate, you can use fender bolts to hold the gear to the cam. They have a large shoulder and will hold a button in. And use the loctite.

Daniel,
I personally prefer not to use them, unless I need one to hold a degree bushing in place. I figure its one more thing to go wrong. There are a bazillion Chevy engines running around with the factory bolts and no locktite ... has anyone ever seen one come loose ??? I sure havent.

Just my opinion,

Alright guys, thanks for the help. I will be fine with just the loctite then.
