I have a 66ss and I have purchased new mouldings for most of the exterior. How can I polish the front window mouldings, rear taillight mouldings, and the center moulding that goes between the grill and front bumper (I believe this is called a valiance molding). Appearantly there is a difference between stainless steel and anodized trim, how can I tell which is what. The window trim and valiance peice dont seem to be available new so I will have to buff or polish or do whatever it takes to get them looking nice. And could someone tell me where I can find info on what type of trim is of what meterial an all of the outside trim on my 66.

Chris, The anodized trim is Aluminum. Most of the trim on the 66 is anodized Aluminum. All of the rear tailight and headlight trim, grill, rocker moldings, hood lip molding, roof rail molding, and the interior roof line molding were all Aluminum. The window trim is stainless steel and the remainder of the chrome trim (emblems, hood spear, hood lovers, tec are chrome plated pot metal. You can polish the aluminum trim, but it will look different than when it was anodized (it will also oxidize). I believe you can have your parts re-anodized after you remove all of the imperfections in them such as dents dings, scratches, etc. You can tell what the trim is just by feel. The stainless is much heavier than the aluminum. You can E-mail me if your not sure what a particular piece of trim is made of.

The center valance molding is available.

I just checked in National Parts Depot. They have the center molding for $45.80 and the ends for $89.00 pair.

They are probably available at other places too.

They straightened, polished and re-annodized all my aluminium trim and straightened and polished all my steel window trim. It looks awesome. Costly tho.

John6066, Typically stainless steel is not attracted to a magnet. Some grades of stainless are slightly attracted, but not all.
