I am looking at a 1991 chevy truck 454, are these engines any good for performance. Do they have any weak points and will any old big block parts work on this. I want to put it into my 69 Chevelle. I just don't know if it worth buying. It has 80,000 miles on the untouched engine and it is $500.00. Any help would be great.

If you can get the numbers off the motor and post them someone could provide info. Is the motor running now?

I don't know the numbers, the engine is quite a ways away from me and I can never get a hold of the owner easily. I was just wonder if that year is worth while in making it into a permormance engine and if there will be any problems with it being a newer style. Will older head bolt up and other performace parts.

one thing you want to check, is it probably does not have provision for mechanical fuel pump, that area of the block is left raw cast since those engines had gone to tbi, if the engine had been replaced for some reason it might have a fuel pump block off plate in place. maybe this is a non issue for your setup anyway, the early heads will work, and you want those in favor of the original peanut ports.
