Has anyone used dye to check for oil leaks? Will any black light work?

Yeah, I used it to find a leak on my big block. It's an essential tool for all GM dealers, they use it on A/C, transmission, and power steering leaks. My block is painted black but the dye showed the leak as yellow. Still haven't fixed it but I know where it's coming from.
