just a couple of questions; i have been getting some conflicting info on what thread sealant to use when reinstalling my heads. the first time i used that indian head stuff and the guy at the machine shop said that would mess with the torque readings and he gave me this permatex 14 thread sealant with teflon. which do you all recommend? also do i need to put this sealant on all of the head bolts or just the ones that go into the water jacket, and how do i tell which ones are the water jacket ones? any other tips would be appreciated.

I have always used the indian head sealant or permatex #2 non hardening sealer on the bolt threads after wire brushing the bolts clean. Only ones that go into the water jacket need to be sealed, but I do them all to be sure I didnt miss one. Helps lube the threads too.

Looks like they almost alll go into waterjackets. Schmear everyone of them with the Teflon thread sealer the machinst gave you. ( dont know about IndianHead or whatever that is). Apply liberally, and then turn the bolt against your finger to smooth out the bead some so you dont lose alot of it feeding through the bolt hole. Drop of oil around the bolt head/washer to get a good torque reading.
