if you where really good at welding you could section the frame to fit the vert.el caminos and convertibles both have boxed frames but the el camino is longer.

yup ive been shopping and so far i like what i see at auseys...when i say no interioer i mean none at all lol no seat frames panels or anything...

wambam thats exactly what the elks for! :)

i did alot of reseach on how to do this but never ever found anything definite or a build thread, jus a bunch of debates on what works and what doesnt so i took the bits n peices i learned from my research an came up with what i did....hopefully it might help the next guy shorten one of these or give him a better idea on how to do it.... first thing i did was measure the hell out of everything and cut a 10" section out of the boxed part of the frame

Dec 8th, 10, 12:57 AM
i then put a step cut on the main part of the frame and took off 4" on each side, claped it back together welded it up and set the car on it for its first trial fit....everything lined up nice except the back half witch still needed to be modified but i wanted to get the body on it to see exactly what i could do

after seeing how diff the rear section of the frames are i decided to not mess with it and jus find a back half of a car A-body i found a section i needed in reno an the guy sent it on a greayhound bus that same night

thanks bro when i get to that part of the build ill have lots of questions for you :)

so after i got the rear section i pulled the body back off and jus made a diagonal 45 cut back there n welded it back up...as far as the main section i cut, my first plan was to plate the inside for extra strength but as you all know the frames a triangle shape and i just couldnt get in there to get a good weld, maybe somebody with more skills can, but i wanted to make sure it was strong and overkill so i plated the outside over my step cut and i welded the box section back on after trimming it down to 6"....so when you look under my car you will see a plate were its been reinforced, witch i dont really mind im not building a show car or #'s car and im deffinatly not trying to hide anything if i try n sell it

after getting all the welding done i had it sand blasted along with the trailing arms rear end and cross member, and bought some por-15 i was suprised 1qrt covered the whole frame and cross member with 3 good coats

i boxed in all the trailing arms and put energy suspention poly bushings in everything, i just rattle canned the diff and arms and sent the rear end to west coast ring n pinion service,, they installed a eaton posi 3 series with 4:10's all new bearings n seals

well not much has happened, i got the rear brakes completed and all the brake lines ran i made a trip to pic n pull and copped a 96 gn box....i made a huge mistake and got some chineese arms nov15 from kmj and have been getting the run around with them, i should of just rebuilt my stock arms, so thats kinda slowing things down a bit..i ended up ordering some poly bushings for the arms from a place c alled kartek...maybr next week ill have the body back on

k i got the body, doors and trunk lid on and ordered a radiator support so i can start getting the fenders lined up.. the doors are comming back off tho the hinges and detents need to be replaced and ima try to body work them on some a frames...im not experienced at all with body work but im determined to learn, ive done alot of research and the more i read the more confused i get...anyways i played around with a block and some 320 on the door pictured and on the rear of the door i hit metal and under the wing window is a lil low...so im thinking skim under the wing window with some light weight poly filler, spray a lil etch primer on the bare metal spot and then coat the door with poly primer? and re block?
