: 049 head ???

I'm trying to come up with a combo for my 402 that I can get by running on pump gas. Looking for a large chamber head.

I'm torn between ponying up and spending the money for a set of Brodix ovals ( 120cc I think ).

My other choice was to run a set of 049's which I thought were 122cc.......... and spending the rest of the money elsewhere for now ( = getting the car done sooner)

Looking around I've found them listed as coming with a 110, 113, 122 cc chamber stock ..............do they vary or is there alot of mis-information out there.

Thanks for any info, Kevin

If they haven't been cut they will most likely be 118-122ccs.

I think it's extremely inappropriate to use the "WTF" on this site.
We all know what it means and it's out of line.

Thanks for any info, Kevin i have a set and i cc'd them a few weeks ago uncut and with stock valves it came out dead on at 122 cc with an extended tip spark plug installed....

you can easily run an honest10.5 to 1 compression on 87 octane fuel in the 396 with a 230 something or bigger cam @.050

i was running 10.2 to 1 compression but i bumped it up to 10.5 w/ a 233/239 @.050 cam...cranking compressionis around the 180psi mark....

My 049's were around 121-122cc. Had them flat milled .040", took them down to 113-114cc.

For any and all helping me with these questions THANKYOU!! With the vast resource the internet is, there is also alot of misinformation and as most I can't afford to make costly mistakes. This first experience with big blocks is far diffrent than I could have ever imagined.

I think I have an opportunity to pick up a virgin set of 049s and with a little mild home port work (maybe no more than gasket match) and larger valves they will fit the bill at least for now.

Although the venolia pistions I have have a large dome, given their 122cc chamber, my virgin blocks deck height, and a little help from a well chosen head gasket think I'll be ok (Hope I got this right  ).

As for the reaction of some to my title, I am a bit suprised but so be it. I have no intention of bringing ANY kind of negativity here. I've been part of several online communities over the years as my diffrent projects evolve and there is obviously a much diffrent atmosphere here than I am acoustomed to on other performance oriented forums and now I know.

In a simple search curious why there has been no other mention to offense of this term of frustration in this and other forums here but if someone need be blamed, I have broad shoulders and will take the blame.

Dirtrocker, some do take offense, I'm not saying I do, but some do. In an effort to keep this an open and friendly site we need to think of others and how they may react. What you say amongst one group of people won't fly around another, you know that. Certainly worse things have been said here and a lot of posts get locked because of what is said. So, don't take offense, you know whats expected now and the type of site 'most' would like this to be. Some will still cross the line but that happens.
You gotta admit this is one great site.

I chimed in here b/c I recently got one of "HiHeelz N HotWheelz" posts locked up AND I didn't use language like that so that is where I'm coming from!

You can read my "Appologies in order" post over in the BS section if you want to..

Please carry-on..
