About to put hte heads back on my 396. What do do you recommend to use to help seal the head bolts. I used to just put some permatex sealer on the tip of each bolt. Is this still a good practice?

ARP makes a good sealer just for that application I use it all the time with no problems.

I second the ARP thread sealer. Pretty darn inexpensive, too.

Not to bust in on ctrain's post but do you put it on all the bolts or just ones in water jackets. Thanks

On my SB they all go into water so I do them all.I also use the same stuff for pipe threads on the fuel line and anyplace else that needs a thread sealer.

The ARP is good stuff, just don't use it with head studs. It will likley leak.
With studs you are not turning the male /female threads against each other like you do with a bolt & the Teflon stuff regardless who makes it works best in an application where you are actually tightening or "setting" the thrreads against each other like pipe threads do.
What works great with studs if you are not going to loctite them is Permatex #2 or #3 the stuff that "semi hardens"
I use the good old Permatex on the head bolts too as it works just as good as the ARP & I only need to keep track of one can :D
I save the ARP for pipe thread applications.
