Couple of shots from the starter to prime the carb, one pop, a little retared, then it was running. Two water leaks, one tranny line loose.

My custom made pistons can be heard swapping holes, stock exhaust lets you hear that.

That thing holds 5 gallons of water and anti freeze. One of the water leaks was the damn chrome thermo housing with the rubber o-ring, damn speed shop junk.

Cam is a not all the radical, big split helps that. Now it's off to the paint shop!!!

It leaks no more, I slapped a good old Fel-Pro gasket under thing and that solved the problem. I put my Snap-On pressure tester on the radiator and pumped it to 10 pounds, no leaks.

I had to remove the new battery and put it in my son's Silverado. The battery, a Delco less that 2 years old, was leaking acid around the positive connector. The mickey mouse system of cables and connectors that GM uses is doomed to fail. We replaced the factory cables with new ones about a year ago and they were junk! So, I made cables from #6 welding lead, much better.

Wally that is a great engine. What paint did you use for the block? Nice and bright.

POR-15 and is it a pain in the tukas to put on http://www.chevelles.com/forum/frown.gif

I think someone who knows how to mix and spray it might find it easier.

I used ARP head bolts and that bolt lube you use under the head of the bolts is nearly impossible to clean off. It was worth in the end and if I didn't have that to bitch about I would look for something http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif

The only thing about the whole deal that I don't like is all the damn piston noise. I had a 70 1/2 Z/28 that had piston noise like this, sounds like 3208 CAT until the temp comes up.

That loud huh? The piston slap I had in the old 427 ( GM TRW slugs) was like a swirly noise. Frankly, I didnt know what it was until someone pointed it out.

What aluminum radiator are you using Wally? I like how it fits under the stock cover and uses the shroud.

Thanks.

The radiator is a Griffen and it is rated for up to 600 hp. The only thing I had to do to make it fit right was trim the rubbers. I also discovered a pointed bolt sticking through the core support and hitting the tank, cut it off flush. I found a local distributor right up the street from where I work who did a cash deal no tax, still $550 big ones http://www.chevelles.com/forum/eek.gif

It holds right at 5 gallons.

Chump change compared to the total cost of this conversion.

BillK dropped by last night and he said it was quite compared to the 73 Z/28 he just sold.

I guess it's loud because there is no hood on the car.

I need to align the front end and take it to the paint shop, now the real hurt begins.
