Is it true that you couldn't get a 327 in a 64 Malibu until April 64?

True from everything I've read or been told. My dad bought a '64 SS in January & the 283/4 brl was it. (he sold the car a few years later, for which I may never forgive him)

Mine was built in July so...so far so good for accuracy of the April 64 start date.

It sounds accurate. Chevy brought the Chevelle out as a return to sensibly sized cars after the bulky '58 & later Chevies (which are cool). The Chevelle was sized very close to what the 55-6-7 Chevies were, only lower to the ground. They even made the top engine the 283 power pack with 220 horsepower, like the '57 283-4V. After the GTO stole the thunder, Chevy dropped in the 327 late in the year in both 250 and 300 horse versions. Rumour has it that the Corvette 327/365 horse was offered as a COPO.
