I have a round horn button that says Chevelle on it with a part number of 3926979. Any one know what year it goes to? Thanks in advance.

I believe that #3926979 is a component of #3926977 cap which fits '68 Chevelle with standard steering wheel.

The 68 has a 3 arm wheel , with buttons at 9:00 and 3:00, not in the center.

This may the button from the optional 4 spoke wheel. I have such a wheel in an El Camino (72) with just a bow tie in the center rather than the word Chevelle. Similar buttons were used in Camaros and of course the ever-popular Chevette.

I'm gonna agree with Fred on this one. The number is not the actual part #, but a component #. For the Chevelle Deluxe (non-Malibu), there was a round horn cap about 3" in diameter. A salvage yard here in town has a wheel hanging on the wall with the shroud & cap in place.

This sounds like the button that JWagner mentioned. I have 2 of these steering wheels. To order this button (and it is still available, if anyone needs part #s, post here and I will dig them out tonight when I get home), actually requires 3 pieces: Button (cap), retainer and emblem. there were several emblems available: Chevette, Z28, a bowtie, etc. The bowtie is still available, which will go with anything.
Now someone help me with my last 10bolt post.

It will help to clear this up if you tell us if its chrome or rubber/plastic. Well?

It has a non-shining exterior mounting surface. It may be a dull type of chrome finish or some other type of solid metal. The plastic button in the center which says 'CHEVELLE' measures approx 2 1/2". The overall diameter is approx. 3 5/8".

Thanks

That rules out the button for the optional 4 spoke wheel, which is rubber and plastic. My money is on Fred's pick, especially given that the number cast into your piece is 1 digit off from the part number listed - that pegs it as far as I'm concerned. You probably won't find many people looking for one, but I'll look nice on your garage wall!

Check out the wheel on http://www.chevelles.com/aces/vol4/vol4_16.html . Does it look that? (5th pic from the bottom of the page)

Actually thats Vol 1, No. 4. I have an original copy and its still hard to tell. Its looks like it may be the right one. But can't swear to it.

Thanks to all who have provided thoughts and input.
