how do u guys add up all of your total degrees timing, like mechanical and advance?? I herd the 30's range is good HP gains..But i am still confused.

Tim, My was wife was stationed in Victorville in the 70's when she was in the Air Force!

The total advance commonly referred to is intial plus mechanical (weight, springs, and limit bushing controlled. DOES NOT include vacuum advance. Disconnect and temporarily plug the vacuum advance line when checking initial or total. Most Chevy V8's like 36 to 40 degrees total. 36 is a good starting point. Too much and you run the risk of detonation which can damage the engine.
